A journey is all about taking one more step.
We always celebrate the foot that takes the step that moves us forward. But pause and think of the role of the other foot. It keeps us grounded. It gives us the base, stability, and confidence that allows us to move forward.
Think, when we were babies and were evolving from crawling, to standing up, to taking the first foot forward. We often fell as we struggled to take that first step. It was frustrating but we did not give up. Only when we learnt how to balance and trust one foot to keep us grounded and then move the other foot forward, the magic of the first step happened. And then there was no stopping us. The step forward is more about the foot that does not move, and not just about the foot that moves us forward.
See, walking is all about teamwork. One foot has to stay grounded and the other foot has to trust and move forward. Immediately after taking one step, the feet change roles. Now, the step-forward foot stays grounded, and it is the turn of the initially grounded foot to move forward. As this trust becomes natural, we go from walking to jogging to running and even winning the toughest of races. That’s powerful.
Life is all about taking one more step forward. But it takes both feet to take that step forward. A journey is built on the foundation of trust and confidence our feet have with each other. Yes, it is about one more step, but it takes both feet to make that happen.
